About Us

Gas Turbine Applications (GTA) in Calera, Oklahoma, was incorporated in 1984 as a privately held corporation. The initial company focus was as a service support facility for Solar gas turbine products. Due to urging by our customers, it was soon expanded to include component overhauls. The success of our work convinced the company to again expand into the engine overhaul work.

The 4000 square foot Saturn test facility was built in 1986 and full overhauls began that year. In 1992, the Centaur test cell was completed and overhauls for these products were added. A new 14,500 square foot shop with 20 foot high ceilings and a 7 ton walking bridge crane was completed in 1996.

Since our beginning, GTA has provided service, parts, support, and overhauls to most gas and oil companies based in the United States. In 1994, we performed overhauls of three Centaur generator engines to the United Arab Emirates for installation in Saudi Arabia. We have provided Saturn and Centaur overhaul services to ESSO Resources™ in Canada, Transgas Pipeline™ in Saskatchewan, Qatar General Petroleum™ in Qatar, and the National Gas Company™ in Trinidad and Tobago. After more than 18 years, GTA has developed a reputation for high-quality overhaul work, reasonable prices, and reliable field service support.

The overhaul test cells are equipped with high speed viscous shear dynamometers for full load testing of the Saturn and Centaur engines after service. Each unit is tested to meet factory specifications and a complete certified test report is provided. Our shop services include Heliarc™ welding, rotor balancing, precision grinding, and many specialized component processes. We overhaul and flow gas fuel control valves, overhaul and test guide vane actuators, overhaul and test starters, along with hundreds of various package-related components.

In October 2002, Caprock Country Enterprises™, dba Gas Turbine Applications, a Midland, Texas, corporation, purchased GTA. Wayne Metcalf, who has more than 45 years of gas turbine experience, heads Caprock. Mr. Metcalf formerly owned and operated Metcalf Servicing Incorporated (MSI)™, a company that also provided overhaul and service support for Solar products. He brings an excellent background to the company.

The company has retained the original name of Gas Turbine Applications. Larry Ford is the general manager and Mark Blake is the material control manager while GTA employees and other management remain in place. The new company focus is to further the initial goals of providing the highest quality service and overhaul support available for Solar products.
